Online Giving
You might expect us to say something like “it’s better to give than to receive.” But if we truly look at it as God would have us, it’s better to give what we receive. Through God, we receive many things – our talents, finances, opportunities, possessions – and in return, He asks that we give back only a portion. It is through this commitment that we enable more hearts to be reached, more lives to be changed, more souls to be stirred, more families to be brought together and more hope to be shared. With Him, there is as much receiving as there is giving. And we are thankful for the resources with which we are entrusted through his faithful provision to each of you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I tithe off my gross earnings or the net amount of my paycheck?
The most common view is that gross earnings is the amount of God’s provision, and the tithe should be based on one-tenth of God’s provision. Taxes are generally considered payment for the privileges and services provided by the government. Though scripture doesn’t necessarily use the literal terms “net” or “gross,” it is important to note that the spirit in which we give is of greatest value to God. He tells us in II Corinthians 9 that “each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give; not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
What if I’m afraid that I won’t have enough money to tithe?
Giving 10% of your income to your church can be a big – and often frightening – commitment! But if scripture tells us to honor Him with our first fruits and our blessings will be overflowing, we must learn to trust that He is faithful to provide. God wants us to trust Him. Seek His guidance in how much you should give, and he will honor your faithfulness and obedience.
If we want to help people get out of debt, why does Mission Church accept credit card donations?
Used within the parameters for which they were originally created, debit and credit cards can be an efficient tool for payments and purchases. Many people utilize them in place of checks or cash throughout the month, then pay off the balance in full. For these people, we offer the option of using a credit or debit card to tithe. We strongly discourage those who have ongoing credit card debt from exercising this option.
How should I tithe if my income varies from pay period to pay period?
Depending on which is more feasible for your situation, you can handle tithing with a fluctuating income in a couple of different ways. Some people choose to give exactly one-tenth of their earnings for each individual pay-period. Others estimate their total earnings for the year and give a portion of the total tithe each week throughout the year.
Does Mission Church commit a “tithe” of its financial resources to Missions like some churches do?
Yes! We are currently giving 10% of our income to new churches that will be planted in Oregon. We also believe that enabling people to “go” – and do the mission and compassion work to which they are called is just as important, if not more so, than sending dollars.
Can I designate a gift for a specific ministry?
Each of the Mission Church ministries operates within an annual budget that is reviewed and approved by church leadership and with which we trust God to direct that ministry’s leader in appropriate distribution. Therefore, we do not accept ministry-specific gifts. However, because we understand that God often leads people to give over and above their tithes, we have designated areas to which additional tithes may be allocated. These areas are: Campus Development, Missions, and Compassion.
Is financial information about Mission Church available to Mission Church members?
Yes! Because we are a new church, we are still building our giving base. In the future, once we start meeting for worship services, we will post our audited financial statements as well as information about stewardship to our website.
What is Mission Church's governing structure?
Our governance structure consists of a local leadership team, an entrepreneurial team, a District Oregon Church of the Nazarene Advisory Board, and the General Church of the Nazarene. For more information about the Church of the Nazarene go to www.nazarene.org.
Does Mission Church financially support any ministries outside of the church?
Mission Church has several partners in ministry, ranging from global missionaries to church plants to compassion organizations. Within these efforts, we seek out those organizations who share in our mission to inspire people to the adventure, joy, and abundance of a heart fully devoted to God.
